Piano Between Us

About the performance

“I thought that if we managed to stay together all these years it meant that we’re not as lost as everyone else. But I’m lost, we both lost, and you’ll regret it all your life. You’ll meet my amazing wife, two kids, a dog, you’re right that I’ll be a great dad. I’ll lose hair, but in a cute way. And you’ll have a mediocre spouse. You’ll make it in life, I still think that, but with a hole in your heart.”

Choreographer Yankalle Filtser hosts dancer Yoni Simon (Batsheva) and singer Ella Lavie (Cruella) on a journey combining dance and music, revealing an autobiographical story of couplehood, separation, and a longing for love. “Piano Between Us” reflects on the pain of a breakup, inspired by a personal journey of learning piano during lockdown and the experience of loss.

The work was created using the “Open Source Choreography” method, a collaborative creation method in which all participants express their creative abilities and act as partner-creators in the work. In this collaboration, the musician also dances, while the dancers also share original live music.
