A work for four dancers—mothers—that explores maternal functioning and dysfunction, while dismantling the ideal of maternal holding within an aesthetic yet disrupted space. The action on stage takes place within a fantastical arena, constructed from a fabric surface stretched from the back curtain into the entire stage. The dancers move on, within, and through this surface. The fabric is symbolic: it represents an ageless feminine texture; the constant and endless capacity to hold, swaddle and envelop, passed down from mother to daughter as an inevitable inheritance, in an endless chain of intergenerational transmission.
